Son with Special Needs without Any Services – By Anonymous

The biggest struggle in my region is that we have a lot of different options for programs and care but not enough spots in each. My son received Early Intervention (EI) from birth to 3 but now we are on a waitlist for Pre-K. We’ve been on a waitlist since February 2023, unsure if he will ever get into the program. We were in a home visiting program, but he aged out of that when he turned 3 to transition to Pre-K.

He was eligible for speech therapy, but we would have had to pay out of pocket. They just said we were on a waitlist for that intervention, and nothing ever happened.

My partner and I both work so we must find child care that accommodates our work schedules. We loved EI but at the time we couldn’t get all the services we needed. We had to have a meeting with the Pre-K program at the elementary school and they basically just told us they were full and there was nothing else they could do. Now I’ve had to look on Facebook to try and find daycares that are open for my son.
