Through school directives, my family has struggled through the Mental and Behavioral Health world. This was something I never thought we would need, and I’m still not sure it was necessary. My son was doing anything in his power to not have to attend school after our move. He was diagnosed with “school phobia” by his doctor. Even with that diagnosis, he was required to attend monthly therapy sessions. These were originally scheduled for him, but we experienced a delay in rescheduling after an appointment fell on the delivery date of my youngest child. Even though it was required, he had to wait two months to be seen again. In addition to his therapy, he was also prescribed anxiety medicine to help with his “school phobia.” He vocalizes that he isn’t a fan of the therapy sessions, but we are doing what we were told and hope this experience gets better. Our options are slim for where he can go, so it isn’t like we can switch and get him somewhere new promptly, if at all.
