Good, Dependable, Affordable Child Care is Pretty Much Nonexistent – By Breanna Kobus

Shortly after becoming a mom, I put myself through Cosmetology School and became a salon owner. For me, owning a salon meant not having to stress and worry about child care so much. At the time, child care was unaffordable, and my children spent a lot of time in the salon when the babysitter would cancel or someone at child care was sick.

Later, I had another son who was born with Hirschsprung disease. Knowing it would be next to impossible to find a sitter that could handle his condition and his colostomy bag, I kept him in the salon while I worked, which wasn’t always easy.

My family and I home-schooled the older kids through the pandemic. I received calls to foster my nephew, then my niece, and have since found a family member to watch the little ones on a regular basis. I have found that good, dependable, affordable, child care is pretty much nonexistent for my family.
