More About Joining an Action Council

The Birth to Five Illinois Action Council in each Region:

  • Works in partnership with the Region’s Family Council

  • Amplifies the voices and experiences of families

  • Identifies gaps in Early Childhood services and makes recommendations for how to expand

  • Collaborates with local coalitions to support community and state goals

  • Communicates regularly with families, providers, policymakers, and legislators about local needs

Participating in an Action Council

You must meet the following qualifications to apply:

  • Live and/or work in the Region

  • Have a personal or professional interest in advocating for young children and families

  • Have a strong belief in the strengths of families and the value of community collaboration

  • Be committed to working with others to overcome challenges and create solutions

Time Commitment

We ask members of the Action Councils to serve for a one-year term. We expect the Councils to meet up to two times per month. There may be some additional tasks outside of meetings.

Compensation for Family Members

If you serve in one of the two “family seats” reserved on an Action Council, you will receive a quarterly stipend for your time and experience.

Please complete an Action Council Interest Form. We will follow up about the next steps after the Interest Form closes in late summer.
